Because behavioral health benefit costs are low in comparison with other health benefit costs, employers may overlook the toll mental health and substance abuse problems can impose in terms of lost productivity and increased medical costs. Linda Weaver of Mercer's Clinical and Behavioral Health Solutions Group met with HRadio’s Richard Klein to discuss some strategies employers can use to increase the value of their employee assistance programs and to measure the impact utilization is having on direct and indirect costs.
